Dynamic Recalibration

This applies to dynamic ADAS and calibration that is carried out with the use of a hand-held device plugged directly into the car. In most cases, the vehicle will then need to be driven at a prescribed speed over a certain distance in optimum weather conditions, to allow the system to become accustomed to certain road features. Often the vehicle manufacturer will stipulate specific parameters for calibrating of their dynamic ADAS.

Static Recalibration

This applies to static ADAS and calibration is carried out in a workshop environment on a level surface. This form of recalibration requires specialist equipment like the CSC (Camera and Sensor Recalibration) Tool. Each car manufacturer requires different recalibration settings for their Static ADAS.

Will my car show a fault code if my ADAS camera is misaligned?

No. Current manufacturer workshop diagnostic scans do not automatically trigger a fault code when a camera recalibration is missing or slightly inaccurate. This means your car may appear entirely “fault-free” on your dashboard even though your safety parameters are severely compromised, making professional certified calibration essential.

Do South African insurers require proof of ADAS recalibration?

Yes. Most insurance providers in South Africa require certified proof of recalibration following a windscreen replacement. They may ask for an official recalibration certificate when assessing any future vehicle claims. What is the difference between windscreen calibration and ADAS recalibration?

While many providers and OEMs use the term windscreen calibration, at PG Glass we refer to it as recalibration. Calibration implies setting a baseline, whereas recalibration is the technically precise process of resetting a safety system back to its original OEM / manufacturer specifications after a physical disruption like a windscreen replacement.

Where do I need to take my car for an ADAS calibration?
Because static camera calibration requires a perfectly level surface and highly specialised target board equipment, it cannot be done via mobile van or mobile service fitment. You will need to bring your vehicle into one of ADAS Specialised PG Glass branches across South Africa, where our accredited experts use advanced ADAS Recalibration technology to complete the recalibration process safely and accurately.
Does insurance cover the cost of ADAS windscreen calibration?
Yes. If your windscreen replacement is processed through your vehicle insurance, the required ADAS calibration/recalibration is generally covered under the same claim. Many South African insurers actually require a calibration certificate to ensure your vehicle’s safety features remain valid. The PG Glass team handles the entire insurance authorisation process and paperwork with most major insurers on your behalf. For cash customers, pricing varies depending on your vehicle’s specific make and model.
